Home - Shirley Payne

Let me introduce myself! I have been teaching in Reeds Spring for 36 years, so many of you may remember me. I was a 4th grade teacher for about 28 years, and then a special reading teacher at the Intermediate School for thee years. Since then, I've been here at the Primary School as a reading recovery teacher. I'm amazed at how many parents I see that I had back in the day. It's so much fun to see you all grown up and parenting these little ones now! I am also the mother of Debi, Jeff, and Meghin Payne who you may remember as classmates, and the wife of Brad Payne who you may remember as a substitute teacher.
We live down Y-Highway on the lake. I love to read, swim, boat, and be with friends and family. I work on the lake at Hideaway Marina during the summers.

I want to welcome you parents as teammates in supporting your child to succeed in reading. Reading Recovery is a wonderful program which normally helps students come up to grade level and beyond quickly. This is the grade level to do that before they become discouraged and develop a negative stigmas. It's more difficult to accelerate students' reading behaviors once that happens.

Welcome! Let's work together. My room number is 33, and extension number is 3934.
